Saturday, Last Stop - Westminster

I had booked a "flight" on the London Eye - an evening flight I thought would give me the opportunity to look out over London at night. I arrived early and watched the sunset over Westminster. I took shots over a 30 minute period every 5 minutes or so. On some of these you can see I used a sunset filter and you can make up your own mind whether this works or not.

Sunset was quite early, since this was late November, and the clear, blue skies with wispery clouds turned orange little by little as the sun set over the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

The London Eye was not terribly busy at 4pm with short queues and waiting times of 30 minutes. I was booked for the last flight of the day around 8pm and think that it would have been nice to see the sunset from up high. The London Eye is quite impressive at 150m high and well worth the cost of the trip but book in advance as it can be difficult to get tickets in high season.

Tip: Tripods are not allowed on the London Eye. Security personnel will ask you to leave the tripod at the embarkment point and give you a receipt for collection at the end of your journey. At night you are looking at exposure times approaching several seconds. Use at least 800ASA film/settings and take a bean-bag to rest the camera on. You may be lucky and get something worthwhile. Failing that just enjoy the ride and look out over central London.
